Congratulations to Marita Deshiffart for being named Pacific Sport’s
             "JUNIOR FEMALE ATHLETE OF THE YEAR!"

Nanaimo Track & Field Athletes had an amazing year and a few young athletes were selected to compete on Provincial and National teams. Here are some of the highlights this year:

Katelynn Ramage - Western Canada Summer Games - placed 1st in the 5km Race Walk, setting a new WCG record - Canada/US Dual Meet in Boston, placing 3rd

Marita Deschiffart - Canadian Legions Midget/Youth Championships in Ottawa - 1st in 1500m steeplechase; 4th in 1200m

Erica Deschiffart - Canadian Legions Midget Championships - 3rd in 2000m; 7th in 1200m

Jade Richardson - Junior Nationals - 2nd - Discus - 42.44m , Pan American Juniors - 8th place-44.77m

Joel DeSchiffart - Junior Nationals - 3000m Steeple Chase - 9:47.86

Veronica Luedke - Western Canada Summer Games - 4th 400m hurdles

Nanaimo Athletes also performed well at the 2011 BC Championships in
Coquitlam (14 yrs & older) and Kamloops (9-13 yr olds), bringing home 22 gold, 19 silver, and 12 bronze medals, as well as 112 top ten finishes.

Rachel Jerome, Alyssa Mousseau, Amy Morris, Madison Heisterman- Sprint Medley Relay

13 yr. old boys:
Bryce Kosak- 200m Hurdles
Josh Bailey- 800m
Jason Clare, Bryce Kosak, Josh Bailey, Carter Higgins- 4 x 100m relay
 
12 yr. old boys:
Josh Mitchell- hammer throw

11 year old girls:
Madison Heisterman-600m, 1000m
 
9 year old girls:
Makayla Mitchell-800 m race walk, shot put
 
9 yr. old boys:
Keaton Heistermann-600m, 1000m, shot put, high jump

Congratulations as well to Madison Heisterman (11), who qualified to attend the Hershey’s Track & Field North American Finals and placed 2nd in the 800m. She also set a BC record for her age for the 800m in Victoria, with a time of 2:24:10.
